Last year, I had “Read 30 books in a year” as a book challenge. I only got to 26. This year, I decided to keep it at 30 but took it more seriously and I’ll admit — I have several young adult titles in my repertoire because they’re such fast reads. I’m already at 26 and it’s only July!
That being said, the YA books are surprisingly good! I picked up Divergent and Insurgent and thoroughly enjoyed those books – I’m looking forward to book 3! I was a fan of the Harry Potter, Twilight and Hunger Games series and never thought about them being considered YA so I never looked for others. There are some great stories out there.
Part of me feels like I’m cheating and I should be feeding my brain more intellectually stimulating fare but you know what? Life is too short to read stuff that’s so-called more “suitable”. I never did like rules. 🙂
So what are your favourite reads?
What’s hot this summer (other than Mr. Grey)?
Have you read The Maze Runner trilogy by James Dashner? It’s one my favorites.
Thanks for stopping by! I just finished The Maze Runner and have the next 2 books in the series lined up as my next-reads. Another great YA book!
There are some great YA series. My son (and I) got hooked on the Percy Jackson series. There are 5 in it and he’s written a couple of other series, Red Pyramid and Lost Hero (two different series). I recently got hooked on Janet Evanovich. I hadn’t read any of hers and after ‘One for the Money’ came out, decided to read the first book. Loved it and am on #4 already. They’re very entertaining. I LOL often and my hubby just doens’t get it when I read what makes me laugh. I tried to read “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close’, but just couldn’t get into it. I read the free sample of ‘Witch & Wizard’ and it’s intriguing. When I finish ‘Four to Score’, I’m going to read it. I read a book called ‘Shades of Grey’, not THAT gray. It was entertaining as well, about a female badass detective kind of person, but I can’t find it here at the library, I got it as a freebie from B&N for my Nook. I’ve been busy! Oh, Peter and the Starcatchers is another YA series that is very entertaining. It’s cowritten by Dave Barry. Its’ about Peter Pan and his life before he became “Peter Pan’, where Tiinkerbell came from and how he got the ability to fly, how Hook became Hook, lots of entertaining adventures.
You sure have been busy! 🙂 Thanks for all the tips! I absolutely love Janet Evanovich and I also laugh out loud when reading them – it’s just so darn funny. I’ve read all of the numbered ones (One for the money, etc.) – I think she’s at 16 or 17 now. So so funny and a nice light read – good beach/pool stuff. I’ll make note of your other suggestions and check them out – Thanks again!
