When we lived in Montreal, I used to host an annual “Christmas movie and cookie night”, which usually consisted of watching 2 holiday movies, dressed in our PJs and eating some yummy homemade cookies. All sitting in the glow of the Christmas tree lights. I miss that annual tradition.
Cookies just taste better at Christmastime.
Gingerbread men are brighter and just seem spicier.
Sugar cookies make a comeback with festive shapes and colors.
Old family favourites are displayed on holiday trays.
Oh and the best part: Christmas cookies don’t have any calories. It’s true. I swear. Santa told me.

Awwww I miss that Xmas tradition too!! Pjs cookies and Xmas movies!! What can get better than that?! Maybe that’s what I need to get me in the Xmas spirit!! That’s it Val – I summon you to Montreal!!!! Lol
Do you have a recipe for these cookies/icing? They look amazing and I am trying to find a good recipe for cookies right now. Venturing from the Russian tea cake and chocolate chip holiday cookies… And, these look fun to decorate!
Hi Emily – thanks for stopping by!
I have to admit that I googled for cookie-related pics last year. That being said, here are some links to my favourite cookie recipes:
Sugar cookies (by Alton Brown): http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/sugar-cookies-recipe/index.html
As well as Alton’s recipe for Royal icing: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/royal-icing-recipe/index.html
Gingerbread guys and girls by Paula Deen: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/gingerbread-boys-and-girls-recipe/index.html
The holidays always put me in the mood to bake!
To decorate cookies, the sky is the limit! Grab yourself a decorating kit, split up your batch of royal icing and then mix each smaller batch with different colours and you’re good to go!
